Web and Ranking

Looking for clarification on the need for Ranking when accessing ticket inventory - there seems to be some info missing and/or I'm having a brain freeze. We are told that a constituent must have a Ranking to access ticket inventory via the web. Access to inventory sounds like access to tickets on sale. Since only "known" constituents can have a chance of having a ranking how would the General Public be able to access tickets is rank was required? I see where Ranking is a criteria in the Price rules and see that as refining the use of Ranking as well as setting the criteria for pre-sale. It would seem to me that it is only in the latter case that the General Public would be prevented from accessing tickets (pre-sale) but at all other times Ranking would normally be part of a price rule and just one of the tools. What am I missing?

  • Leslie; Yeah, this sounds like a misunderstanding from whoever told you about the necessity here. We don't really use Rankings in our Tess database but we still sell tickets through our website without any issues. If you want to restrict access to tickets for certain members of your patron group, you'll want Rankings (or Constituency or Attributes) to help with setting the Pricing Rules, but otherwise, I don't think it's essential to have. Thank you, Brian
