Comp Memberships

Does anyone have experience with assigning a new comp membership to a record which is currently in a lapsed membership phase? It is not letting me assign another membership in the same organization even though the expired date is reached. Curios if anyone has found a work around.

  • Is that membership listed as "inactive" or "lapsed"? There is rule in place now (which I think my colleague put in a ticket about because it causes us no end of problems) that if you already have an active membership, you can't add a comp to that record. My guess is that you have a lapse period set in your membership organization, and that period of time hasn't passed yet. So the membership is still "Lapsed" and won't really be done until it's in "inactive" status.

We actually have a lapsed period of 0 here, so I don't know for sure if you can do this...but our workaround when we need to add a comp and there is an existing membership is to just open the existing membership, extend the expy date, and change the level if needed. It's not pretty, but it's the only option I've found.

    Hope that helps!

  • Hi Beth,

Thanks for your response! You are precisely right, the memberships in question are in their "lapsed" phase. I am not sure if our membership department would want a phase of 0, something to at least consider.

We also discussed the possibility of simply extending the current membership.  My fear is having to do this multiple times, creating Frankenstein, pieced together looking membership records. We also considered opening up the membership fields in these campaigns of question - but that seems to be opening a can of worms for later.

I hope your colleague's ticket works, it is very frustrating!

Thanks again for your input - Dana
