QR Codes

Hello Everyone,

I hope this finds you all enjoying your summer and I hope to see many of you at conference.

I was discussing QR codes with my roommate last night as he works for a PR/Advertising company and I got to thinking about the possibility of adding QR codes to ticket templates so that we have a QR code on any printed ticket that goes out the door.

I am wondering if any of you have tossed around this idea and concurrently, am wondering if the BOCA printers have the print capabilities of handling QR codes that would be readable by a smartphone.

Sorry if you get two of these but I thought I'd also post this in the Marketing Forum as well. Any, thoughts, ideas or just a big discussion about this new and innovative marketing tool would be awesome.

Best,

We have done QR codes in print ads that have a younger target audience along with some outdoor kiosks and even recently with a single billboard in a highly trafficked area.  When we do them we always have a separate landing page and try to make the landing page optimized for mobile use.

When we did the billboard it was a remnant billboard that we purchased for a two week flight.  We had 462 people scan the QR code and going to the unique landing page.  There was a behind the scenes video to the current production that was on the landing page exclusively.  The average time on the landing page was 4:22 so people were really watching the video and reading the content.

Additionally, we received press from two different public radio stations, a segment on the evening news on the local ABC affiliate, and an article in our major newspaper that was picked up a re-published on the USAToday.com website.

We have started doing them fairly often on outdoor and print ads, and typically direct to a landing page that contains a video – either a :30 commercial, or some other kind of content. We don’t ever direct to the general site. It’s still a bit early to report any key findings, but that’s the scoop from Roundabout.

We are about to start adding them to our posters and brochures. Our plan is to drive people to web pages with special discounts and tracking codes applied. We also plan on using them to point to pages that will give added value to what is marketed on the poster/brochure with more background info/videos/archival content.

We don't want to take people to pages that just repeat the same content that is already on the posters/brochures. We look at it as providing added value.

    Howard
