Roll up, roll up - who's using contact permissions and would you care to share your setup?
We are migrating to Contact Permissions and in looking around, it seems there are two approaches: a top-level channel approach and then a more granular approach.
Some questions for you:
The cleanest way I have scoped out would be a mix of contact permissions alongside contact point purposes.
Contact Permissions: mail, email, phone (and anything else)Contact Point Purpose: specific opt-ins for example monthly enewsletter, donor comms etc
FWIW we're on TNEW and use Wordfly. So TNEW's Contact Permissions plug-in would ask the top-level permission during checkout, and Wordfly would be linked with contact point purposes to allow our audience to select their preferences.
Please share your setup! I'm keen to hear how others are doing it. Especially you folk in the EU who have gone through a lot of rethinking here because of GDPR.
Cheers,
dgh
- very glad you posted about this, I'm also interested in how others are setting up Contact Permissions. I'm in the process of setting this up for City Recital Hall and actually looked at Melbourne International Arts Festival as a model. Also have just caught up on your TLCC Contact Point Prefs slides, and am now considering your configuration for Co-Presenters!
Overall, we're mostly using Contact Permissions to manage email contact points, and using Interests to cover the genres of performance our constituents are interested in (used for more granular segmentation). The options for mail and phone will still be there, but as we don't really communicate with patrons through these channels, this would mostly be a manual function.
Similarly for event presenters, we'll only manage email contact points and include a prompt within the TNEW purchase path.
Would be interested in seeing how others have configured this too, and how it's made an impact.
David,
I' very interested in what you decided to do and also if you chose to have contact permission response on Individuals only or on both household and individual? We too have TNEW and use Wordfly.
Are Contact points and Contact Point Permissions working with T-New? Or is the best practice still using Interests? To track customers intrestes in orginizational mailing lists?
I'm also working on a project that needs to store contact purposes and permissions from customers.
Tom,
TNEW has a plug-in you can purchase for Contact Permissions. We are just about ready to go live with TNEW and are installing the plug-in to our test next week. Are you using Contact Permissions? If yes, do you have a moment to connect for some questions?
We are not yet using Contact Point and Contact permissions. As I was approaching my current project I was using the old Intrest way of thinking about the project. However, when I saw this post I realized that I was not taking Contact Points and Contact Point Purposes and that going forward maybe this is the better way to implement my current project.
So, I'm really interested in what others are doing with Contact Points and Contact Point Permissions. The organization I'm working with does not have a legacy of using Interests. So, I would not have to do any retroactive conversion.
I'd be glad to connect with you. But, I've not implemented this feature set.
Would there be a value for several of us to get on the line to have a conversation about this?
Maybe we could entice a Network staff person with the knowledge to jump on the call with us.
I'd be willing to host this withing the context of analytic Coffee!
I would be interested in that if we can get some users who are already using them that would be great.
I'd be interested in joining as well. We are just starting to map out how we're going to use contact point purposes and permissions.
I'm also interested in getting on a call. (Also, just fyi I work at Berkeley Repertory Theatre -- don't know why the wrong org appears next to my name).
Boston Symphony Orchestra is also starting to research and plot out how we might use both Contact Point Purposes and Contact Permissions. Would very much be interested in a call or any info from organizations already using them. We are using Prospect2 for email.
Us too!
I am also interested in this. We are looking at a combination of Contact Permissions and Interests.ThanksJess LevySan Francisco Opera (not Melbourne International Arts Festival as it for some reason says....)
Hi Jess and Karen, since you both mentioned it, the "wrong org" thing only appears when you're composing a reply, not when you actually save your reply; hopefully you've seen that when you saved, your replies are showing as the correct org now. You'll see it's from the original poster's org on the thread; when we added this functionality, we had to choose between merge code and the OP's org showing while composing replies and we felt the merge code looked more broken. Happy to hear other opinions though!

Thanks for the explanation! I hadn't really clocked the original organization. Now that I post a bit more, I know to ignore it.
We've been having conversations here at the LA Phil on how we may best use contact points, permissions and purposes. I'd definitely be interested in joining, too!
