Hello all,
We are looking at putting LCD or TV in our lobby that will show customers upcoming shows. Is anyone doing this and are you using a touch screen so it is interactive?
Gloria
Gloria,
We just added two LCD screens this season. We have one in the middle lobby and one at our box office. They are not touch screens. We use it to display upcoming shows and promotions. We do it through powerpoint so you can choose how long each slide plays and it’s easy to change them when a show closes or you have a special slide you want to put up. We’ve also used them to play videos for special events in the lobby.
I’m happy to talk to you more about it if you’d like to call.
Best,

We here at San Jose Rep just got an LCD screen in our lobby as well. We use it to display images of upcoming shows, plug our outreach programs, and recently used it to display info about a gallery event we had accompanying our Kite Runner show. The screen has been well received with people standing and watching at almost every show, so much that it is sometimes confused for the line to the bathroom!
We have to 60in HR monitors in the lower lobby where the box office is located. Generally, it is playing a looped DVD with promo video, ads, audio.
During performances, the monitors show the performance via HD camera in the hall for latecomers who won't be seated until an appropriate pause or standby patrons.
Regarding your touch screen - have you looked at the kiosk application that comes as part of the web api?
We have LCD's outside our ticket office, and each of our two theatre spaces. They are all getting their signal from computer running software called Digital Recall. The Digital Recall software can play Flash format, windows media and quicktime formats along with also being able to display webpages and RSS feeds. It also allows for Tickertape's to be used along the bottom or top of the screen. According to their website they will also be supporting powerpoint soon. We run the software on three old desktop machines and then convert the output to RF that gets mixed in with our in-house cablte TV feed. That way any TV in the building can be used to show the advertisements. Feel free to contact me if you want more info.
I developed and installed kiosks in a manufuacturing company I managed by I came to the opera. We had kiosks across the production floor. Their uses are quite limitless.
There is a really inexpensive and easy to configure product that allows you to present a web-browser interface using a touch screen and a regular PC. The touch screen allows navigation and data entry et cetera yet lock down everything else on the PC. Since it uses the web browser virtually anything you can develop and show is fair game. You could present a slide show of events and when someone touches the kiosk allow them to navigate a calendar et cetera. Even collect information.
The software... www.kioware.com. The best part is you can test it using your pc and if it works then you buy it. If you contact them they will extend the demo so you have more time to play.
Hi Gloria,
We have put two digital screens in our temporary performing space (The Courtyard Theatre) and they run off UK based software from a company called Saturn. This allows us to programme by day and time what the content is and it can use stills, video, tickers, live stage feed and a combination of all of these things.
It's early days but it is going well for us and we're looking to install digital screens in the new Royal Shakespeare and Swan Theatres when they open later in the year. We're not using a touch screen though - I'd be interested to hear if you do install touch screens and how you find them.
Thanks
Mary
Thank you Mary. We have put this project on hold but when we do implement I’ll let you know what we do.

We have two interactive touch screens in our lobby. They are quite popular, and get updated with information about upcoming shows periodically.
I am not sure of the exact setup, but if you want more information feel free to contact me and I will get you the information of the person who maintains the program for us.
