Hey marketing folks:

Do you have a written policy on how and when you allow young children in the theater?  If so, can you send it my way?  We’re revising ours and wondering what others are doing.

Thanks!

Here at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, our policy is short and simple. In our brochure, this is all we say: “Children under six are not admitted to plays or other events. For childcare information , see page 67.”  On p. 67 we have several local childcare advertisers listed.

I occasionally field complaints, but very rarely.  Most patrons understand and many are grateful for some age limit to optimize the theatre experience for everyone.  It must be said we do not bill any shows as “family shows”—we leave it up to patrons to decide what’s appropriate and clearly direct them to “age recommendations”  made by our Education Dept. for content and thematic guidance.
