Does anybody use Tableau?

Hi all,

Does anybody use Tableau to visualise data? We've recently started using it and I'd like to exchange ideas with other users.

Thanks,

Thanos

  • Very Cool!!!

We have been doing the sales curve thing in excel for a number of years now. We call it the Magic Spreadsheet. This was a predecessor to the sales curves in the RMA. We are using both now. However we like our "magic spreadsheet". Because it includes budget numbers. Which leads me to the next question. How do you "source" your data. Do you let users of Tableau go directly against tables. Do you use a view? Is this real time data or against a test environment that is regularly updated?

The second one also sounds interesting. Would you intend to use Tableau? Or another tool more designed for textual analysis?

    Hello,

Sorry it has taken me so long to reply.

At the moment we are using Tableau to produce sales curves. We analysed a number of productions and then created aggregated sales curves which we use to compare against shows that are currently on sale. It’s pretty much an attempt to forecast a production’s sales pattern which has proven to be very useful for marketing and finance departments.

We are also interested in uploading our survey data into Tableau and try to find correlations between audience feedback and sales.

    Thanks,

    Thanos

We were looking at Tableau earlier this year but so far I've not been able to justify the expense. I don't have much to offer in the way of useful experience but if others are finding it useful I'd love to hear some ideas I could bring back to my team!
