Embedding a Source Code in a URL

Hi there,

After taking a closer look at our Campaign/Appeal/Source structure, I'm hoping to add an Appeal for email announcements. Ideally, it would track revenue with a unique source for every email we send out. We use mail2 and currently track email revenue through its Google Analytics integration. I'd just like to have the same info in Tessitura for reporting purposes.

I've seen it done in other organizations where they embed a source number into a URL (so the patron doesn't have to enter a promo code), but I'm guessing there's more involved behind the scenes to make it work.

Is anyone embedding source numbers in URLs, and if so, could you share how you went about setting it up?

Thanks a bunch!

  • Hi Becca,

We do this quite frequently.  Once you've got the Source set up you just need to modify the link and add the promo/source code.

If there is not already a "?" in your URL you can just add "?promo=[SOURCE#]" whereas if one does already exist you can add "&promo=[SOURCE#] and that should do the trick.

    I hope that makes sense.

Here's a link to another thread that discusses this: http://www.tessituranetwork.com/Community/forums/t/11514.aspx

    Cheers!

  • Does TNEW accept a 'source' URL parameter? I was talking to the mail2 guys at TLCC and they mentioned in order to track source promotions for emails you send, you have to:

    • Set up the list in tessitura as an in-house source, and promote it
    • Include the source ID as the value for key "source" in the "Add URL Parameters" section of your email campaign details
    • Run some kind of procedure to report opens and bounces back to the promotion in tessi

We use the promo parameter to do MOS shifts for TNEW, so that parameter is already used in some of our links... I didn't know it had the ability to do regular source tracking outside of the TR_WEB_SOURCE_NO table.
