I would like to get an idea of the timeframe that different organizations have used for depreciating their Tessitura system. Also, if you depreciated your hard costs on a different schedule as your soft costs.
Thanks
Dana,
I'm an IT type and not finance, but I'm curious about what you pieces you are depreciating. Are you refering to the cost of the hardware running the system along with any capital expenses related to the implementation?
This is mostly for my own education. I've found that understanding the accounting and finance side of the house often makes my life much easier. :)
Yes. The hard costs (equipment, software, etc) as opposed to the costs for implementing the system such as consulting.

According to our finance person, we depreciate software over 5 years and hardware over 3 years.
She also says that IRS Pub 946 spells it out for you (and says computer equipment should be depreciated over 5 years).

What about any of your consulting costs, etc.? Were they depreciated?

From the notes in the accounting package, it appears that those costs were wrapped into the software costs and depreciated over 5 years.
