We are looking at increasing our $ amounts for 2 different levels of donor benefits. Curious if anyone has done this in the last few years. if so, what roadblocks did you hit? any surprises? Did you grandfather in some folks? Did you have a large attrition rate?

Hi Sarah,
This season we did a major overhaul of our donor levels and benefits that included increasing the $ amounts and collapsing 11 levels to three. We decided to grandfather in our lower tier members until the end of the season which was well-received. In terms of attrition we haven't really seen donors stop giving, we've just largely seen them continue to give at the same level as before, despite not receiving the same benefits. We also made sure to personally call higher-level donors in advance of the changes with specific messaging about why we were making the changes.
In terms of making this change happen in Tess, it was definitely a learning experience and we had a lot of help from our ES team which was amazing! I would highly recommend making changes like this when setting up or launching a new season, or a new calendar year, which ever your membership system is based on.

We changed our donor levels in July 2019 at the start of a new Fiscal Year. We gave donors 6 months notice that the levels were changing on July 1 and did a lot of communication about the new levels as donors were renewing their gifts in the new FY. We did not see a large attrition rate for those 9 months prior to COVID. Happy to chat more about it. Anna
