Custom contribution tab recommendations?

We are interested in utilizing the custom contribution tab and were curious if other organizations had created any particularly successful/useful fields.  This is pretty open-ended as different information is useful to different orgs, but any recommendations will definitely be helpful.    Thanks!

We are currently using the custom tab in contributions to enter the auction item(s) associated with the constituent's contribution to our gala/fundraising events.  This is then included in the thank you or acknowledgement letter to the constituent following the event.  It can also be referenced in followup requests for future events.

  • here is how our custom data looks like
we use the custom tab to record the name of a donor advised fund if that is how the money comes in
and we just recently added stock contribution information

  • Hi Jason -- So far we are using five of the custom fields for contributions.  They are:

    In Honor of
    In Memory of
    Stock Information
    No Benefits Explanation
    Acknowledgement Note

  • We're using all 10 custom fields.

    1. Total Event Payment [money]
Used to supply the amount of the check or credit card charge when only part of it is deductible but we want to acknowledge receiving a payment of a certain amount

    2. Auction/In Kind FMV [money]
Used to declare the non-deductible amount, such as the value of a purchased auction item or value of an in-kind gift

    3. Descr-Auction/InKind/Stock [text]
Description of an auction item or in-kind gift or stock (as in "shares of XXX stock")

    4. Hon-Mem or Deduct from Gift [text; default text says "in memory/honor of [Name]" (without the quotes)]
Text needed for acknowledgment letter so we can say "Thank you for your gift of $100 in honor of Lucie Spieler's birthday"

    5. Pledge Payment Number [text; default text says "(first) payment" (without the quotes)]
For multi-year pledges, so we can thank people for their fourth payment

    6. Pledge Total or Auctn Gift [money]
For multi-year pledges, so we can thank people for their fourth payment on their pledge of $20,000

    7. Date Gift Recd-Stock/Other [date]
If we need a date other than the date recorded in Tessitura as the received date

    8. Quantity recd-Stock/Other [number]

    9. Sales Tax [money]
Used for auction payments where we declare sales tax

    10. Shipping/Handling [money]
Used for auction payments where we include delivery charges

Perhaps we could consolidate a couple.

    Lucie

  • We are also interested in using some custom screens, especially for stock contributions.  Would any of you be willing to share screen shots or the codes you are using on these pages (if the codes are generic).  It would be very helpful to see how others have tackled the set-up and layout of these screens.

    Thank you for sharing!

For the Park Avenue Armory we (NYCC) added the following custom data to the contributions screen:

    Deposit Date

    Stock value Date

    Company (for the stock)

    Number of shares

    Average Price

    Total Stock Gift Value

  • I tried to send a screen shot with mine, somehow that did not come through, let me see if I can attach it
for us those stock contribution fields will be helpful, as we don't track loss or gain in tessitura, so really the three fields (name, number of stock, price per share) is all that we display on the acknowledgement report (in addition to the contribution amount)

    for Donor Advised Funds:
after a long back and forth, we decided to enter Donor Advised Fund contributions into the Donors account directly, and only reference the DAF in the custom field. We used to do soft credits, but it really went out of hand with the amount of additional accounts we had to create.

so the custom field also prompts us to not issue a "receipt" for the Donor but only an "acknowledgement"
