Recording an in memoriam donation

Hi there,

We have a donation from a group of people to dedicate a seat in memory of a friend of theirs.

I was just wondering how other people record donations like this on Tessitura? So far we've considered:

  • Setting up an In Memoriam constituent on which to record donations of this type
  • Putting the donation under the name of the main contact (although this person is not a ticket-buyer and has no other relationship with us)
  • Setting up a constituent for the person in whose memory the donation has been made and marking them as deceased

I'm most in favour of the last one because it seems to be the easiest way for other people to track down the donation in the future (i.e. no one but me will have access to information like who the main contact for the donation was, but people will always refer to the person that the donation was made in memory of).

I hope this makes sense.

Any insights into what other people do and why would be really helpful.

Many thanks,

Amy

  • Jonathan, we are looking right now at how to track "in memory" gifts. If I'm understanding what you said correctly, if you process the contribution under Person A (the contributor) you are then able to go and do a "soft credit" (new term to me) to Person B (the in memory of person).

A couple quick questions: 1) is that two separate transactions? Or can you do it all at once? 2) Can you pull a report each month for those "soft credit" entries so you could (for example) send notification to the family (if requested)? Thanks so much!
