Recording an in memoriam donation

Hi there,

We have a donation from a group of people to dedicate a seat in memory of a friend of theirs.

I was just wondering how other people record donations like this on Tessitura? So far we've considered:

  • Setting up an In Memoriam constituent on which to record donations of this type
  • Putting the donation under the name of the main contact (although this person is not a ticket-buyer and has no other relationship with us)
  • Setting up a constituent for the person in whose memory the donation has been made and marking them as deceased

I'm most in favour of the last one because it seems to be the easiest way for other people to track down the donation in the future (i.e. no one but me will have access to information like who the main contact for the donation was, but people will always refer to the person that the donation was made in memory of).

I hope this makes sense.

Any insights into what other people do and why would be really helpful.

Many thanks,

Amy

  • Hi, Amy:

We don’t own a theater, so this topic is just theoretical for us. How about a combination: Set up an account for your deceased honoree and put the donations the accounts of the people making them and soft-credited to the honoree. That way, your gift acknowledgments go to the correct people, and the seat, with however you note seat name in an account (whether performance, program, attribute, or note) shows up in the correct account.

  • Hi Lucie,

Thanks so much for your reply. This suggestion makes a lot of sense.

I hope this isn't a totally stupid question: - when you say "soft credit" the donation to the honoree, how would you go about doing this?
