Error in gift and pledge entry

I hope someone can help with a crazy gift and pledge entry situation.  Here is what happened:

A gift was entered twice – once under a household and once under the household’s foundation. We need to figure out how to delete the gift entered under the foundation.

To make matters worse, the gift entered under the household was also entered in with a $500,000 pledge. The household has changed their mind about the specific pledge and would like it removed. Is it possible to keep the gift but remove the attached pledge?

I have searched the help site and can't find any instructions on this and I know this must not be the first time something like this has happened.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • I would perform an adjustment to the contributions - there is information on adjusting or refunding contributions.

Because you will be making multiple decisions and adjustments, it would be good to first write out, step by step, what changes you want to make to the record as well as the end result.

The contribution made on a pledge can surely be kept. If it was a credit card, you can adjust the payment "on-account" and make notes in the new entry with reference to the original payment, date and information.

In my organization, I consult with my development and finance people to get their opinion on the situation, and so that they understand the information that might come to them in scheduled reports. Then they know why this refund or adjustment was made.

I hope this helps and gets you pointed in the right direction.

    Thanks,

    Marie
