We are looking to implement something similar to the Surprise & Delight program shared in the Innovator Series and at the 2013 TLCC. To do so, we will need to use our NScan system to send text/email alerts to our team. Does anyone have some instructions of how you have set this up in your organization that you'd be willing to share?
Hi Penny,
Check out the NScan Application Guide, specifically section 5, "Monitor Attendance."
We have regularly used the Monitor Constituency Attribute and the Monitor List attribute, depending on how many people we want to track and for how long. That seems to work pretty well--we get emails on our smartphones in the performance hall pretty reliably.
Hope that helps!
Thanks. I have read the document, and I was thinking that I could create a monitor constituency attribute called Surprise and Delight. But, since the constituents would change each time we did a S&D, and we would not want to receive future alerts when those previous recipients attend a future performance, it seems to me that we would need to delete that constituency each time after completing the surprises. But, if we delete the constituency each time, then we would have no history of who has already been surprised, correct? So then it seems that we would have to create a new S&D constituency for each event, so that we have historical data from previous events.
How do you handle that part of the program?
Penny

Also, the alert emails do not contain any info on the seat numbers for the constituent, correct? So, do you simply create a manual listing of those seats numbers in advance and carry it with you, so you can reference it when you receive the nscan alerts?
Well, we have been much less formal about our program, but if you build lists to monitor rather than constituencies you could maintain those a historic record of whom you've targeted for which performances. And then you could have a Surprise & Delight appeal and create promotions for everybody who had been targeted. The trick then might be how to differentiate between the people you targeted and the people you actually connected with. We are mostly noting manually when we actually find people at the hall, but if you're talking about a lot of people maybe that's not feasible.
Our NScan emails do have seat numbers, but that may be a customization. I'm not really familiar with the NScan back end!
