Grade Validation

So if I have 1 class and they have to be in 3rd grade - and I assigned the grade keyword to the performance - why am I only getting that grade as an option? Did I miss something?

  • Heather - here is what comes up on the registrant page -3rd grade is the only option.  I guess I thought it was similar to age validation where it would have greater options and error if they picked an grade not assigned to the perforamnce.

(Atlanta does age or prerequisite coding- so this is my first Grade level experience)

  • Mary,

If you are looking for a range of grades to be available, then you should have a separate keyword for each grade attached to the class. These keywords should probably have the category of "Student_registration_grade".  More than likely you should have keywords "ungraded" through 12th grade available for you to attach to the class.

  • No - I guess the real question is - is this a selection or a validation.  From what I see it is not a restriction based on grade just a selection of grade. More for class can have 3rd 4th and 5th and you want the information to be chosen so you know.

  • Mary,

It is more of a selection than validation. True grade validation is a difficult process to pull off due to a student's grade can change at anytime. Say, if we were to store the grade as an attribute, as soon as it is stored it becomes outdated. If I sign up for a 5th grade class now but don't take a another class for 2 years, my grade is now way out of date and won't let me sign up for the class that I am eligible for. Also to make it more difficult, If I am signing up for a spring and fall class, in the "fall", I could be a different grade.

We designed the current method as more of a selection with the thought in mind that when the customer sees the available options, they would know if their student is valid for the class or not.

    Hope this helps,

    Marty
