Hello,
We are considering using tap and pay devices to add to our theatre's fundraising efforts. Does anyone have any experience fundraising with either TIPTAP or DIPJAR? What are the positive or negative experiences you have had while using these services? Any and all feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I have used DipJar at many theaters I've worked at, both on a full year model and a short-term campaign model (1 month). Neither option was super successful, to be honest. We basically broke even when you compared the cost of the subscription to the number of donations received.
Where you put the devices and the signage associated with them is crucial to the success of your fundraising efforts and it really helps to mention that they are present and available in some form of an announcement or curtain speech pre or post performance. The systems are very easy to install and use for both the donor and the org and can be customized with your org's branding, which is really nice. Overall, it is a nice form of passive revenue, but not a large amount of revenue.
We did find huge success using a post-show live appeal and bucketing strategy (a la Broadway Cares Red Buckets) during the run our holiday production this year though. As it turns out - people still carry cash and are very generous if you just ask.
