Can a gift be noted as anonymous on the backend?

When I search documentation for "anonymous" I think it is only a donor that can be anonymous - not a gift. Is that correct? I need to enter a gift on the backend for someone that wants the gift to be anonymous. However, the household allows for recognition with their other gifts (under Program Name).

Please advise. Nerd

  • Ah, donor listings are always fun. So two thoughts on how to do this:

-First, if this gift is for a different campaign or appeal you can set up different program names for each one (for example, folks might have specifics on how to be recognized for Gala vs. Annual vs. Capital and so on).

-If this isn't for a different campaign (or if you don't want to set up different program names) what we do for unique situations like this is to create a Program Name Note under the research tab that explains the situation, and then I make that constituent's program name "SEE NOTE". We have a donor, for example, who gives at a higher level, but wants to be recognized at a lower level, so I've done that for them. Presumably you're pulling these into an excel sheet first and reviewing them (so it's not just pulling directly into a document to be published)? If not, you'd want to add that step in for this!

  • Thanks Colleen. I think it is more sustainable for us to use the research tab so Database doesn't have to keep building different program-name types.

Then, to suppress records from a segment if they have Program Name Notes (which I might change the wording to Recognition Notes) I would use this -- Note Type -- in Extraction Manager?

  • You could do that if you wanted to outright suppress them, but keep in mind you'd suppress their regular recognition as well. I just pull the recognition list as usual and look for anyone whose program name is "See note." Then I check the note and the make the necessary updates in the excel spreadsheet before putting it into the document. Does that make sense?
