Hi everyone! While not strictly a database question, I'm sure lots of you will have ideas. We have an issue with calendars. We have office holiday calendars, performance calendars, production/technical calendars, event calendars, artistic calendars, in/out of office calendars... it's like Forrest Gump naming how many kinds of shrimp there are. We have that many calendars. And some people will print them out in Excel and work from those, some insist on trying to smush everything into outlook, some use their own personal creations... which means updates don't necessarily go out to everyone that needs them, changes don't get communicated, etc, etc. Does anyone know of a (free or lower cost) "Calendar Central" that can kind of pull all of these together? Maybe with toggles to show "these three calendars" over a 90 day span, or something like that? While outlook is fine for personal daily calendars, once we start adding in all of the other ones, it gets too unwieldy.
And while I'm thinking of it, is there any kind of wiki for adjacent software/apps that people find helpful? should we start one?
thanks!Kathleen
This one looks like a hefty beast! (I am also fond of defining our "systems of record" - Netsuite for all financials, Tess for customers, etc).
Thanks for this! We're getting frustrated with Outlook calendars because we're trying to put too much into them, in my opinion - perf calendars, tech calendars, other assorted, along with bookable meetings and personal. I would be happy if we kept Outlook to meetings and admin holidays/closures only. But alas, I am only one voice among many
ArtsVision does have a lot of extra functionality in addition to the Calendar feature. It takes a little getting used to but it does have a lot of features and has some integration points with Tessitura.
the business case(s) for things like this are tricky. The avaliability of rooms and people over time I get. It's like Clue (Kathleen in the Boardroom with a meeting Agenda!) Using it a suboptimal project management solution across the company is an issue though.
Surely people don't want everyroom and event and persons movement ever in one calendar? I often find the issue is people are trying to hack their calendar to be a calendar, plus Teams, plus Asana/Tello/Sunsama etc
FYI look at something like Sunsama for an aggregator of tasks from calendars, slack, email, etc.
Sure thing!!
