Hello Database Managers!
I'm starting to go through the v16 customizations check report. We've been on Tess since 2005 and have a lot of old custom reports and associated procedures that are no longer in use. I'm wondering what y'all recommend for notating that these are no longer in use so that future DBAs will know that they don't need to bother with these? Should I delete them? Feels scary to me...
Hello
We've created a report category, "To retire" and flagged this category inactive, put all old reports or reports used last time long ago
and keep for our reference.
Additionally, I've created a set of custom tables (more custom objects :) to keep info about different types of custom objects:
views, tables, SP and function and log to track the usage of custom SP.
I LOVE THIS.
So meta. It's like a coffee table book about coffee tables!
Ask Chris Jensen about his custom report about custom reports.
A very simple report, but one I use all the time, to search our many reports.
I liked it so much I shared it, though apparently shared reports have been deprecated, or moved somewhere extra accessible: "Solution #365 is the Report Search Report. This SSRS report has been provided courtesy of Guthrie Theater and searches report names and descriptions for any search string. Can optionally include inactive/retired reports."
That's like "The Making of: The Making of Titanic"

I confess, I'm one of the guys that has never watched Titanic, but has watched a making-of doc. I remember thinking: they made a 4/5th size (or something like that) Titanic model for the shoot; how could they have resisted going all the way to full size? :-D
Supposedly sailors are a superstitious breed. Maybe that entered into the decision-making process.
