Membership Utility Question

Our membership department would like to test a campaign that allows any member who renews at a higher level, their membership would be able to use the newer, higher level benefits right away. We think this would require a manual intervention to update the new membership initiation date to the day of the purchase, and the current membership would be inactivated.

What we'd like to know is if anyone else is doing anything like this and if anyone has automated something like this. We feel like this could be a utility that could be scheduled.

Thanks.

  • Hi Phillip,

Have you looked at the "Retroactive Upgrades" feature in the Membership Org setup? This wouldn't inactivate the existing membership, it would just bump the existing membership up to the higher level so the member gets the higher benefits for the remainder of the time until the new, higher membership that's pending, becomes active. Speaking for myself I'm leery of deactivating memberships as that has caused some pretty serious reporting issues for me in the past, in addition to it doing funky things to the NRR statuses.

Good luck with this new campaign!

  • Thanks Jennifer. It appears we are using this feature on some of our Membership Orgs. I think we were hoping to have some control over when this is allowed to happen and/or base the ability for this to happen on a particular campaign source code.
