I'm very new to Analytics and have confused myself thoroughly.
I'm trying to calculate what the average contribution was for specific fiscal years and I know there should be a way to have Analytics do it for me? Or rather I think there is a way for Analytics to do it for me as I see some notes in the Tessitura documentation about Pivot tables and average contributions.
I've created lists for each fiscal year in question. I've tried filtering said lists to the Contribution Income sample dashboards. I've attempted to change settings in the indicator widgets included and tried adding a pivot table to the established dashboard to no avail. I've also tried editing the formula values but given that I'm still very green when it comes to Analytics, I wasn't successful.
I imagine I would need to use an indicator widget for the data I'm trying to get.
Any insight would be helpful.
Hiya Vannesa! Welcome to Analytics. I generally start off by making a pivot table as it's the simplest (in my mind at least!) and easiest to make sure I'm finding the right data, and then change the formatting once I'm happy - so for this I'd start a new widget in the Contributions cube and add a column for 'Fiscal Year'. Add another column for 'Amount' under 'Contribution Values' as in the picture below, but instead of clicking directly on 'Amount', instead click on 'More...' which lets you change the function that is applied to that value. By default it will be 'Sum', so it'll show the total contributions in that fiscal year, so if you would like the average, you can choose that in the following menu (along with other functions).
Once you've created the widget, you can change the function (currently 'Average') by clicking the icon here:
Once the data looks right you can then add filters to look at a single fiscal year, and change the type of display to an indicator if you wish, by clicking the dropdown next to where it says 'Pivot' in the above screenshot.
Hope that helps!

Hey Vanessa,
Unsurprisingly Tom is 100% on the money (received amount). starting with a Pivot table is a good way to go.
There are a couple of ways that you can count the average contribution. I put two of them in this .dash file arranged by Campaign Fiscal Year and broken down by Campaign Type and Campaign. The columns have some simple formulas you can crack open and only date filters so it should be easier to upload and play Importing a Dashboard (tessitura.com)
The self-guided intro into Analytics is here Self-Guided Courses (tessitura.com)
Hope that helps
