Year to date for current and previous years

Hi All,

I'm trying to compare total contributions for this year to date with a couple of previous years to this point in their respective years. I would like this something to be dynamic so I don't have to tend to it regularly. I know I'm overthinking it, but so far nothing has snapped into place.

Thanks for any nudges in the right direction!

  • My first thought is use 'Contribution year-to-date', filtered to 'Yes'. This would look at Contributions that came in for each year, filtered by things that came in for dates up through yesterday (defined by Analytics, which is delayed by a day). This will keep updating each day, and you can set whatever widgets you need.

  • Adding onto Nathanael's comment, I'd also suggest within your formula to subtract the total from today's date last year. The reason for this is the data is one day old, so you really want to compare Contributions through yesterday to the same date the year before. In order to do this, it needs to be on the formula level.

Here is an example from the Ticketing world:

The "Same Order Dt in FY22" filter is done through the Time Frame - Advanced. Click Test to make sure the result date is correct.

The end-result is Ticket Sales through today's date last year (allows you to use the YTD Flag) minus ticket sales on today's date last year.

This method allows widgets like these:

All of my ticketing concepts should apply to contributions (contribution date instead of order date).

  • Hi Neil,

I'm curious about your post. Is this in the context of using the Calendar or Fiscal Year to Date Flag? Those flags would exclude today last year already. Per the help:

Because data is loaded into Tessitura Analytics nightly, the "to date" time frame always ends yesterday. In other words, you can think of the "to date" time frame as being up to and including yesterday.
