Custom Categories

Hey All,

I see "Custom Category" in Analytics and I'm wondering:

1. How to go about setting these up? (I assume a system table?)

2. Has anyone successfully created a Dashboard to track performances purchased with specific keywords? We assign them interests and genres too, so I'd like to see all of the numbers I can around these.

Thanks in advance!

  • Hi Michael,

I can't say how they are setup, but we do have this in our instance! We've got a customisation done for us by Tessitura where we use keywords to tag production seasons with a particular 'product type' keyword - there is a 1:1 relationship for these so that each production season has a singular product type keyword attached. I'm then able to add a keyword filter to my dashboards in analytics to track ticket sales according to the keyword attached to the production season.

  • That 1:1 thing is critical.  If a performance can have multiple keywords then a custom element using the keyword is going to potentially throw off all of your numbers, as certain events will have tickets counted multiple times (one for each relevant keyword).  There is no mechanism built-in to Tessitura to enforce such a limit, so you either have to be very careful about performance setup or you have to have some view that will only return one keyword for a performance.

There also ways to apply formulas to values (Ticket Count, Total Amount, etc.) to compensate for multiple returns, but obviously that puts a lot of work on dashboard builders.
