Hello Friends,
I've been battling with one of those "should be easy" questions in Analytics, but I'm ready to ask for help. I'm attempting to make a line graph of month by month membership counts, one line for this year and one for last year. At my previous organization I had a complicated set of reports to get this (because it is surprisingly complicated) in T-stats then we made a custom report in Tessitura, but it would be so so convenient to track this in Analytics. Using the report, we would look only at the last day of the month so we would count renewing people just once. The trickiness comes from memberships starting in a certain month, expiring in that month, and then those memberships that are just running in that month. Then don't double count those that expire but have a pending membership.
I can get something like this with Initiation dates in Jul, Aug, Sep... or Expiration dates, but not "how many were there" in Jul, Aug, Sep. I can get How many were there on the last day of FY19, FY20, FY21, but not month by month, at least not without making a TON of values.
How do you count your members month by month? Am I over complicating?
Jenny
If my memory serves correctly Odele Peter found a solution for a similar use case.
Hi Jenny,
We use a solution that works fairly well that Tessitura consulting suggested to us but is still a bit clunky, using a line chart and then each month having a value with a different calculated field with the formula counting memberships with initiation dates before the start of the next month and expiration dates after the start of the next month using advanced filtering. It means I need to create a new value each month but it roughly does the job. Dash attached.
Would love to know if anyone has found a better solution - maybe using some SQL and a custom date field?
Thanks,
Carlo
