Apple's iOS Passbook?

Hello all,

Is anyone interested in using Apple's new Passbook feature in iOS 6? It looks very nice.

The developer page is here for anyone thinking about this: https://developer.apple.com/passbook/

Yea, I brought this us at one of the conference sessions, but no one there seemed to have any plans.  Ours are simply in my head, but I’m interested, and I think that once iOS6 rolls out to the public this will be a hot topic.  Looks like Ticketmaster already has integration, too.

It seems to me like we can offer it as an alternate means of a shipping method, which would presumable require us to prompt the user for their apple Id or a special link to use in a confirmation email to get the “Pass” into passbook.

Still a little fuzzy there.  I just scanned through the presentation slides, and it looks fairly complex, yet simple.  Features to update purchase and such, but all tracked with signed requests, Device Serial No.,  PassIDs, and authTokens.

I’d be interested in anyone else’s opinions or thoughts.

    James

  • Hi James,

Thanks for sharing that, I like the idea of  separate shipping method, that would be very slick.

Another integration I was thinking of would be to the 'Store Card' model, where a customer could present their Passbook store card for the Tessitura org that allowed a staff member to scan their constituent number to unlock special pricing, and record transactions at POS that may not all  use Tessitura directly, but allow logging of transactions for later importing.

    Lots to think about!

  • As this thread is a few years old, I am hoping someone has made some progress integrating Passbook into their venues. Nicholas, have you been able to make the "Store Card" model work for the Australian Ballet? I would be interested in hearing more about this project!

Feel free to email me directly: enash@kentuckycenter.org

    Thanks!
