Hi all
we seem to have a problem with a certain scenario.
Customers using Internet Explorer 8, running Sophos antivirus software cannot access select your own seat for online sales.
I'm not going to name our web development company here, but they tell me they have exhausted all available options, and the only thing to do, is to put a message to say upgrade to IE9. Which I'm not keen on doing.
Has anyone had this problem before, and if so, was it possible to solve? I'd be grateful to hear of anyone else who might have encountered this.
Thanks
Rich

Hi Alex
All the customer sees is the best available seating choices. An SYOS plan isn’t displayed at all.
The problem is perhaps an add on I should have been explicit about. Its specifically Sophos Web Content Scanner. Once this is disabled, SYOS displays perfectly – and I’ve just tested that a moment ago to make sure I’m not going mad!
The company concerned believe its outside the scope of the project and requires more specialist help that they can offer, however we could be looking at a hugely expensive fix we can’t afford. I appreciate that the number of customers who might use IE8 with the addon enabled might be small (as I’m told by them) but for starters, everyone here uses that exact system, so none of us could choose our own seats if IE8 was our only browser!
Any ideas you might have would be gratefully received!
Cheers

Hi Rich,
Do you have any more information, such as a specific error message that the customers are seeing? I've had a quick play on your site in IE8 (both with and without compatibility mode), with Sophos (v9.7) and I'm not experiencing any obvious problems with SYOS. Do the SYOS pages simply fail to load, or do they load in some kind of broken state?
(We don't use the same SYOS application as you, sorry, so I don't have any inside insight into what it might be doing...)
I agree that recommending an upgrade to IE9 is not a solution; Internet Explorer 9 requires Windows Vista or 7, whereas IE8 runs on Windows XP, so for many customers you'll be suggesting an operating system upgrade! Not something I imagine they'd be too keen on doing just to book tickets.
