IE8 and selecting your own seat online

Hi all

we seem to have a problem with a certain scenario.

Customers using Internet Explorer 8, running Sophos antivirus software cannot access select your own seat for online sales.

I'm not going to name our web development company here, but they tell me they have exhausted all available options, and the only thing to do, is to put a message to say upgrade to IE9. Which I'm not keen on doing.

Has anyone had this problem before, and if so, was it possible to solve? I'd be grateful to hear of anyone else who might have encountered this.

Thanks

  • Hi Rich,

Do you have any more information, such as a specific error message that the customers are seeing? I've had a quick play on your site in IE8 (both with and without compatibility mode), with Sophos (v9.7) and I'm not experiencing any obvious problems with SYOS. Do the SYOS pages simply fail to load, or do they load in some kind of broken state?

(We don't use the same SYOS application as you, sorry, so I don't have any inside insight into what it might be doing...)

I agree that recommending an upgrade to IE9 is not a solution; Internet Explorer 9 requires Windows Vista or 7, whereas IE8 runs on Windows XP, so for many customers you'll be suggesting an operating system upgrade! Not something I imagine they'd be too keen on doing just to book tickets.
