Virtual/Streaming Success Stories

Hello!

For Virtual Performances (not Classes/Camps) we are still playing around with what the magic recipe might be to see strong sales.  We are curious what other organizations have done/are doing, or what shifts you have made that resulted in strong or at least, decent sales. Questions that have come up for us, that we would love to hear answers from organizations who are going strong with this are:

  • For a Virtual Performance what is the price of a ticket?
  • Do you offer anything in additional to the performance that is included in the cost of the ticket?
  • What platform are you using- Zoom? Vimeo?  Etc.
  • How easy is your process to access the performance?
  • Do you stream pre-filed or live performances?
  • How do you combat screen fatigue?

Any advice or tips or tricks you can pass on, we would love to hear!

    • For a Virtual Performance what is the price of a ticket?

This we can't discuss here, as it would be a violation of price fixing laws (there's some better term of art that's escaping me at the moment).

    • Do you offer anything in additional to the performance that is included in the cost of the ticket?

We are including artist interviews with pretty much all of our digital events.

    • What platform are you using- Zoom? Vimeo?  Etc.

    Vimeo Enterprise.

    • How easy is your process to access the performance?

Eh, as easy as TNEW has been able to create on short notice.  We have

Made the Digital Content page our default account page.

Linked to it copiously on our website.

Created as "Ticket Holder Link" on our event pages to direct ticket holders directly to the content page for that event (this is tricky: if you don't have a ticket and go to the event content url, you get a message saying the page doesn't exist, which is problematic.  Hopefully that will be replaced with a page or content option at some later date that we can use to redirect people to the purchase page.)

    • Do you stream pre-filed or live performances?

Pre-filed.  We've dabbled with "digital premiers" with added content and a fixed start time, but are moving away from it.

    • How do you combat screen fatigue?

We've tried to promote casting to a television as much as is practical (we have little control over customers' home setups and technical aptitude).  I managed to set my parents up with Chromecast, but it wasn't trivial.  I think Apple casting options may be easier.  Obviously we're keeping a close eye on the Vimeo OTT work that Tessitura is doing.
