We’re trying to track web sales from banner ads from other sites. So for example, say a web user clicks on our banner add from yahoo.com, and buys 4 tickets. We want to track that these sales were from the banner add on yahoo.com. Has anyone else implemented anything like this? Any features in the API that support this?
Hi John,
I know there are users out there doing this. Generally the way that it works is you embed the source in the URL you put in the banner add and then your website is coded to pull the source out of the URL and use it for the order. Updating the order source is accomplished with standard API methods, but pulling the source out of the URL is custom web coding. Hopefully some of the users who are doing this will chime in with some more specifics. I know that there have been some presentations on this at past conferences, so you may want to browse through the 2009 and 2008 conference archives.
