Hello,
We are looking at different ways to sell digital live stream content this season, and since TNEW's gated digital content feature has been moved to release in late August, I am wondering if any Tessitura users out there can share what they are doing now to sell gated content, particularly if you are using Tessitura/ TNEW for the sales path, and connecting to a third party stream from there somehow? What I am currently envisioning is selling on Tessitura/ TNEW, and then emailing a link to ticket buyers close to the time of a performance. Of course there are easy ways to break through the gate with this method, for example if we use VIMEO, where the password or direct link could be shared with non-buyers. While I'm not incredibly concerned about the dishonesty of our ticket holders forwarding their direct links along to other people, I'd love to know others' experiences and approaches have been with this. Or, maybe there is something simple that I am missing which would allow me to make the streaming more secure.
For Tessitura staff - We are looking to begin selling gated content before the TNEW release, but the actual performances may take place after the release, and so in addition to any third party workarounds that Tessitura users can provide, would we be able to take a performance sold before the release and convert it to a gated digital performance?
I have been searching the community forums and have not found a recent discussion on how people are selling gated content currently, and so if there is already one in progress that I missed, I'd love to be linked to it.
Thanks for your help, and I hope everyone is staying healthy out there!
Andrew
I'm also in the same boat, I have to start selling gated content in Mid-July but it won't be available for consumption until later in the fall. We are also only streaming our content for an amount of time. I do know that some of this information impacts artist contracts because we have to convince them that content and links can't be shared easily.
This is also a concern of mine. The gated content offering from Tessitura was going to help with a lot of issues and now I am really concerned about the timeline shift.
Hi Gregory - as with Michaela - I know you have been looking forward to our release of the gated digital content path on TNEW. We are working hard to get it in our community's hands as soon as we can. If the digital content won't actually be available for consumption until fall, you can sell it now via Tessitura and TNEW, and then once we have released the feature, you can easily configure those same performances using product types in TNEW to be accessible as digital content. We would just recommend that you associate those performances with a separate perf type in Tessitura to make this configuration easier. Let me know if there is any additional information we can provide to you to help!
All best,Nara
A couple of follow up questions:
1.) Will this have a timed function where when something is bought the video is available for a certain amount of days/hours after purchase? This ability in particular affects contract negotiations with artists. 2.) Is there another option that just makes the event available for a static amount of time? example: available for one week in November? I'm assuming we can also manually just turn it off if that isn't the case.
3.) My marketing team is wondering if once links are embedded will the video controls display such that videos could be played on Apple TV.
Hi Gregory - great questions!
Hope this helps. Let us know if you have any more questions!
