Selling merchandise online

We're interested in using a service (perhaps Shopify) to handle merchandise sales. Essentially, I'm hoping to find an integration with Tessitura allowing a merchandise upsell in a single transaction

Has anyone accomplished this? on tess 12.5

  • Hi Robert,

TL;DR You can do this through Tessitura without the need for 3rd party (paragraphs 1&2). However, if you did want to use 3rd party you can do it, just it's complicated if you want everything in one order with Tessitura (paragraph 3 for more details)

You can sell merchandise directly through Tessitura and your standard purchase path, I built one in V12.5 using a 'merchandise' facility which is just large capacity general admission venue and then different price types for the different merchandise available, you can then report on this very easily and if like us you want to set this up by season you can simply create a new 'event' for the last day of your season each year.

We were also planning to do an upsell on merchandise related to tickets in the basket. The only reason we haven't added this to our site yet is because of deciding how we want to integrate this seamlessly into our purchase path so if a customer purchases both tickets and merchandise but wants to collect their tickets at box office but obviously post the merchandise you can only have one delivery type per order. My solution to this is to create two orders in the system and only send one confirmation, all possible but just finding the time to set it up!

If you were to use an external service to handle merchandise you could do this. There are several ways you could go about depending on how you integrated your external service but I might look at creating the order via the external services API in the background alongside the Tessitura order and simply adding another item to the customers cart, perhaps a contribution type of 'merchandise' you can then attach the external service orderID(s) and perhaps descriptions to the order notes of the Tessitura order the payment value will be correct and you can then when creating an order confirmation use the order notes description to populate details for the customer. Of course you then need to close off the order in the external service. PLEASE NOTE: I don't think I would recommend this course of action and perhaps with more thought (not the first thing that comes to my head) a better solution for 3rd party integration is possible, but with functionality available within Tessitura already I would say it is easier to stick with that.

  • Thanks William! We are season-based as well. We have LOTS of season-based, custom rules that were actually causing conflicts with merchandise sales. (For instance, single tickets are only available to certain constituencies during times of the year.) Given this, we were considering a third party integration with Shopify or the likes. Just found this, but not seeing any documentation on Tess Network: https://www.tessituranetwork.com/Features/Retail

    anyone familiar?
