TNEW - add on using pre-cart logic

Hi there folks,

Would anyone have an example of their entry in LWP_VALIDATE_CART that would suggest an add on auxillary item to something being dropped into the cart?

Specifically, I'm thinking of a pre-paid parking voucher.  I'm assuming that I'll have to build a "performance" for each date but can't quite resolve how to get the pre-cart to serve up the parking "perf" appropriate to the selected concert/play date.

Many thanks, in advance!

  • I do this using pricing rules.  I set up a pricing rule for each performance with a link to the associated TNEW link for the add-on performance.  Don't know if that helps or not.

  • We have (historically: no live shows for the foreseeable future) had possible parking and café reservation add-ons.  We have promoted these by using the Cart Additional Text in TNEW.  Being able to add on in the same reservation page would of course be optimal, although there is some complexity for us, as parking is donor entitlement, and also we would want these add-ons available to package-buyers.

For us, pricing rules were out because it would have involved 1-2 pricing rules for every performance in our calendar, and that would close in on the maximum number of recommended active pricing rules.  The other caution with pricing rules is that they only fire once, so the next time the customer comes to their cart it won't be available to them.
