Can anyone explain what value there is in affiliating guest checkout accounts with a master household? I'm sure I'm missing something obvious, but I can't understand why you would do this.

I believe it to be a holdover from its original functionality. I do strongly recommend against.
If you do want to, make sure the affiliation tire is not one that is displayed on the household or inadvertantly loading it on the client will make Tessitura grind to a gear-swallowing halt.
Do make sure that you have a plan for his you intend deal with the guest accounts when a customer choose to make an active account or you merge a guest account with another account (active account? another guest account?).
