Responsive websites? Rollcall!

Hi!

I'm doing some research around organizations who have updated their websites to be responsive for devices - specifically anyone who has made their purchase path responsive.  Is anyone doing this?

Thanks,

Tiffany

  • Hi.

We launched our responsive design site in July 2013, and made TNEW responsive at that time, too.

Our TLD is designed for content, marketing and engagement, and we use TNEW (subdomain) for the cart functionality. Because we link directly to the SYOS page in TNEW from the marketing page on our TLD, we skip the Calendar and marketing pages within TNEW (do that on the TLD) and our TNEW template/skin can be optimized for cart-specific UI and asset-loading. By having the custom CSS control of TNEW, we were also able to make TNEW responsive design, though it is my understanding that TNEW 7.0 will have all this functionality natively.

Everybody's mileage varies depending on their market, but for us going responsive was a good move. Online sales before we launched constituted 18% of ticket volume (compared to box office, phone, etc). The season we launched the new site, that percentage increased to 25%. As more people discovered the purchase path was mobile/tablet  friendly, the following season the percentage rose to 33%. And this year we just had our season launch campaign, and 69% of ticket revenue came from the website.

We are a highly seasonal market. So for us at least, we have found that more people buy on tablet than desktop, and
phone is expected to overtake tablet in the near future. (Our market is overwhelmingly Apple device, too).

    Hope this information is helpful.
