Online Gift Certificates

How do most organizations here handle sending online gift certificates to recipients? We are having a heckuva time.

We are able to sell them online through TNew no prob, but the functionality is super basic. Buyers expect some sort of printable or email-ready gift certificate to give to their recipient, and we end up doing it all manually, which feels archaic in this technology driven age. Currently, an order confirmation goes out to the buyer with the GC code & basic receipt info. It is not really the kind of thing they can print our or forward to their recipient.

We've talked to TNew people & had no luck improving the receipt setup to anything beyond basic text. We talked to Tess programmers and got a massive quote for an automated system that would send a fancy printable certificate to the buyer and/or recipient instantly, but it's literally the most expensive customization quote we've ever gotten and we don't sell enough GCs to make it worthwhile.

So we're sorta stuck. What does everyone else do? How do you craft those order confirmations? Do you have customizations?

    Hi Carri,

We created an HTML “confirmation” that is used as the gift certificate. Our web programmer created a pretty certificate and then programmed the site to send that file when people select that they want it emailed to the recipient. The giver receives a normal confirmation. If you want to discuss further you can email me directly at gormsby.flynncenter.org.

  • Hey Gloria.

Is there a way we can discuss what you guys did for the gift certificate? We're now running into a similar problem. We have a downloadable gift certificate but not an email one.

    Thanks in advance.

We are currently trying make gift vouchers available to buy online. So far having a problem that the confirmation email comes through saying the amount paid is zero. Can't seem to find anything in the API documentation that will make it show the amount paid for the voucher.

    Any thoughts?

  • Hopefully Gloria will chime in here, but they used an outside consulting company to build a feature within their website. We are on TNew and still exploring to see if this is an option, since we don't host our own site.

  • That sounds like a glitch, I'd submit a ticket. I know it will show as a $0 order in the constituent account (you'll be able to see the amount paid in the transactions though), but the receipt should not say that.
