What about the idea of using GitHub Teams ? Not sure how easy it would be to manage, but you could create separate teams for different use cases.. i.e.: General Network Members, Tessitura Staff, Special joint-community projects, etc.
We use GitHub exclusively for code repos and sharing and have found it ideal for working with teams both publicly and privately. There is also a self hosted Enterprise version that might make more sense for a company like Tessitura.
