Is anyone aware of any kind of studies around the number of no-shows for performance-based events (notably theatre/musical theatre)?
We track attendance using NSCAN and I pulled our Attendance by Performance numbers for our season and we had about 10% of our sold tickets coming up Did Not Attend. I'm trying to figure out how this compares to the industry averages but haven't been able to find any numbers on this metric. Everything I come across is % Attendance looking at the number of tickets sold compared to capacity, but nothing on the percent of patrons who are actually showing up.
Hello,
For symphony and opera shows I also usually have about 10% who do not attend. For family shows it goes up to about 20%. The thinking there is that family groups are buying tickets to family shows. So, if one party of ticket holders does not attend a regular symphony concert it results in two tickets not scanned. If one party of ticket holders does not attend a family show it results in four tickets not scanned. For a free event the rate of tickets not being used goes up to 50%.
