Can anyone give me a little more clarity on the difference between these two and their functionality?
Horacio,
In short, hold codes limit who can sell a seat – allocations limit who can buy it.
Hold codes are used to explicitly mark seats on the map as unavailable for general sale, and held seats show up as either Breakable or Unbreakable holds in the seat map. Permission to break, or sell, a specific hold code is governed by the security permissions of the specific user group – so House seat hold codes may not be accessible to the Box Office Seller user group, but can be broken by the Box Office Manager group.
Allocation codes are used to limit which customers can buy a seat, through a combination of Mode of Sale and customer ranking. At minimum, you can specify that the seats are only available when purchased through a specific mode of sale. You can also specify that a customer must have a ranking value (based on the rank type associated to the performance or package) equal to or greater than a certain number, in order to purchase those seats. Seats on an allocation which are not accessible in the current MOS or because of ranking level show up as red dots in the seat map.
