Holds Vs. Allocation Codes

Can anyone give me a little more clarity on the difference between these two and their functionality?

They are becoming more similar over time, but basically Allocations can be linked to specific Modes of Sale which can be opened by linking them to a promo code, but Holds cannot. Holds can also be released from the map when you are in a sales screen, but Allocations can only be released from Season Maintenance.

    That's the basic difference...
