ticket processing error

Occasionally when saving a ticket order, the operator will get and error with the following details "Error in updating T_PAYMENT Table...Rolling Back". 

This error appears when the operator clicks "Done" after the order has been seated and the payment authorized.  The operator is unable to proceed and must cancel the order.  There doesn't appear to be anything special or different about the orders in question.  After the order is cancelled and re-processed, it goes through just fine.

Has anyone else seen this order?  Do you know what causes it?  I am stumped.
