Online discounts for Members

We have a Friends Membership scheme. Once someone has donated £40 they become a friend and are eligible for discount tickets. The membership adds a flag to the customer record.

How can I enable a members to get access to a discount pricetype online without issuing a promo code?

Essentially I'd like customers to log in online and have that log in be the trigger for access to the pricetype.

I've read through a lot of the forum items and online reference materials but can't find how to do it.

If anyone could point me in the general direction I'd be very grateful.

  • Hi Simon,

We did this for our members who are entitled to a 15% discount on our publications. Our goal was to allow our members to automatically access the members price once logged in. I worked with our Tessitura guru and IT genius to get this done...it wasn't a one-man job (at least for a novice like me).

The chain reaction is: Once logged in, a current membership triggers a members constituency which triggers a members ranking which allows access to a members MOS which offers the members pricing.

Our Tessitura guru summarized this process for us in one sheet, which I've shared with you below.
Once you have your members pricing and members MOS set up, the rest of the setup is as follows:
    1. Create a Members constituency with rank xx in TR_CONSTITUENCY
    2. Attach the Members constituency to the associated membership levels in Campaigns > Memberships. (the initiation date must be immediate or the constituency will not be applied to the constituent record right away).
    3. Create a members ranking type in TR_RANK_TYPE
    4. Add a line in TR_WEB_RANKING to indicate the ranking start and end level and the MOS for the rank type. Priority = 1.
    5. Run the Membership Update Utility to add the constituency to all existing memberships.
    6. Update the local procedure lp_customer_rank so that it will attach the member ranking to any constituent with the member constituency who doesn't already have the member ranking.

    Some things to note:
    • A member must be logged into the account in which their membership is active. If they are online and, instead of looking up their account, create a new duplicate one which doesn't have the constituency/rank, they of course will not see the discount.
    • A member must log into their account before they put an item into their cart to see the members pricing.
    • If a constituent purchases a membership online, they must complete the membership transaction and then purchase the other items afterwards.

    Hope this helps!
    Daniela

Wow - thanks everyone for the help!

I think an additional MOS is clearly the way to go. We operate under a sub licence from the National Theatre so I'll need to speak to their IT dept about setting up some bits (as they have the security control on things like MOS setup) but the rest is certainly achievable in house.

Our offer for friends is pretty unsophisticated - a basic same % discount on all tickets, with a relevant pricetype added in to all events. So nice and easy at the box office but until today offering online was something we really wanted but couldn't do.

I'll give the above advice a go and update here once it's up and working.

Thanks again from Greenwich (watch out for us on the London 2012 Olympics coverage - we're next door to the equestrian arena in Greenwich Park!)
