Subscription Dynamic Pricing Exchange

Greetings,

I've looked for a way to do this, but as of yet have found none so I was wondering if anyone else has come across this problem.

Our theatre is largely supported by advanced subscription sales. We begin renewing subscriptions before the final subscription price for the season is decided upon and as a result, those who resubscribe early end up paying less for their tickets than someone who waits until closer to the deadline. The problem comes when those people try to exchange their tickets. They end up owing more money because the ticket prices have changed. I tried to avoid this problem by creating an entirely new price type so that the box office employees could manually revert the prices to the original subscription price when handling exchanges but the default for new subscriptions and exchanges would be the newer price.

This seems to work fine in the box office, but now, our website won't allow patrons with the original lower priced subscriptions to exchange seats online. Is there a better way to set up the pricing that will allow us to increase the prices while grandfathering in the patrons who received the older, lower price?

I would appreciate any input you could provide.

Thanks,

-Josh

It sounds like you need one MOS with one Price Type for your “Early Bird” Subscribers and you need another MOS with a different Price Type for your “Tardy to the Party” Subscribers so that they can go into the right MOS and not accidentally choose the cheaper price.

  • Hmmm....I hadn't considered manipulating the prices through a different mode of sale. I'll have to take it to our web specialists to see how that would work with web sales and exchanges, but it's something else to look into. Thanks for the advice.

  • Hi - It's been a few years since this was posted.  Did you ever figure out a solution?

I stepped into a situation here at Lyric where patrons who purchase a flex ("Choose Your Own") performance cannot exchange performances on our custom website because CYO prices are subject to dynamic pricing and the way it's currently configured in Tessitura is too complicated for the website.  Fixed-seat subscribers can exchange online because those prices aren't subject to dynamic pricing, which causes a lot of confusion for our patrons because they don't know what a fixed-seat vs CYO is; we get a lot of complaints.

The only solution they've come up with is to create new exchange price types every time we increase prices with the price set to the old price type. For example, if we increase prices on 4/11, we would create 2 new price types: CYO411 and XCYO411 for exchanges.  CYO411 for the new increased prices and XCYO411 for exchanges of tickets purchased prior to the 4/11 price increase.

However, if we increase prices several times throughout the year, this can easily get very complicated.  And we already have a lot of price types, so I hesitate to create even more.

Anyone else have this problem and have you found a good way to handle it on your website?
