Because our Development Department tracks most all organizations in the hopes to either hit them up for a membership or sponsorship... and in the hopes to report on these numbers for grant puproses (they like "upper level" organization data)... we're now following the v.11 heirchy whenever possible.. The order is built on the Organization level (for instance... University of Southern California has one account, and associated accounts like "School of Theatre", "Football Boosters" etc.) from there we have a custome tab on the order the links that order to the proper associations - including the individual contact patron.
We're doing this because we find that most group leaderships can change hands over the course of a few years, and this will help alleviate any duplicates out there (I know, I know... duplicate accounts is a losing battle, but at least we're trying to stay on top of things).
In doing this we're able to get data on Universtiy of Southern California as a whole big snapshot - perfect to show the relationship we have with them when we do any sort of reporting on that level. This works the same for Corporate type accounts.
You know what this means? This means we've got a ton of clean up we're doing since we migrated to v.11. We're slowly getting through the dupes and making sure we're getting things done properly, but in the long run this will only help us.
