Is there a way to track expired gift certificates in Tess? If a gift certificate is partially redeemed, would the new gift certificate have the same expiration date as the original?
Any information on how your organization expires & tracks gift certificates would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Melissa,
Gift certificates in Tessitura do not have expiration dates. Also, when you redeem the partial value of a gift certificate, the remaining value stays on the existing gift certificate which can continue to be used until it has no value.

Thanks for the information Kevin. Is there a way to make them expire? Our finance department would prefer they have an expiration date to control the amount of money being carried over from year to year.

There is no way to set an expiration date on an individual gift certificate and make it expire. However, there is a "Gift Certificate Expiration Utility" which can be run to find gift certificates created over a range of dates and expire/devalue them by paying them out to a selected reconciling payment method.
In some jurisdictions, it is not legal to expire gift certificates as they are considered cash (along with gift cards); you may wish to check Texas laws before deciding to run or schedule this utility.
