Benefits of N-Scan Access Control System

Please share your thoughts about the benefits of the N-San system for venue access control and patron tracking. What you like best and what you like least...

Patron and organizational user and financial benefits? What are your experiences and results?

  • We’ve started our third year with Nscan and I agree with all the benefits that Caryl shared, especially the ability to offer Print at Home.  The software is very easy to install and manage.

On the negative side, and I have to preface this by saying our scanners are over two years old and we purchased the less robust model, they can be challenging.  Our FoH has mixed feelings – when they work it definitely helps with traffic flow but our older volunteer ushers pretty much drop it in their pocket and start ripping tickets if they lose the connection or it freezes on them.   We’ve had to send a few of them back for maintenance (the scanners, not the ushers J) and they sometimes lose their settings and need to be reprogrammed.     We had to get creative with routers to improve stability.  We are directly in a flight path for the airport and I swore that we lost connection to the server every time a plane flew over.    It absolutely bugs my CEO that the ushers have to hit a button each time to scan.  He would like to see a reader that is either continuous or senses the ticket and reads it.

I guess I would characterize them as a necessary evil.  The benefits outweigh the issues but I wish keeping the scanners in service was simpler.

We've been live with NScan for a while now and would say for us the benefits are:

    a) that we can more easily idenitfy fraudulent tickets for our high profile rock and pop shows

    b) we can identify problems at our main doors now rather than in the seating area (so we don't have the problem arising as the show starts!)

    c) for our rock and pop shows where we have standing areas we can now ensure only the correct people are getting to those areas to ensure we don't go over capacity and cause Helath and Safety issues

    d) our FOH team can easily see areas of the house that have been tickets but where people have yet to arrive and can asses whether they may need to hold the show etc.

    e) we are more accuratly able to track when our audience arrive at the Hall prior to a show which helps with bar opening times and we can also see which doors are used most to access the building.

    f) we are more accuratley able to track who attends our shows and can report on capcities attended rather than capcities sold (which can differ)

    g) it will be essential for when we move to PAHT

    Hope that helps!
