Refunding a credit card without returning a ticket

Hi there,

Very occasionally we need to process a refund to a credit card without returning the tickets originally purchased - for example, if we receive a complaint after a show and we have already settled with the promoter and don't want the final totals to change on the show reports. Does anyone know if there's a way to do this within Tessitura? I have tried setting up an event on a GA plan with variable pricing, but it won't allow me to sell a ticket at a negative value. If there is no way in Tess then we'll have to do it manually through our card server but it would be good to have a way to tie it in with our financial reporting in Tess.

Any ideas?

Catherine

  • Hi Catherine,

What you could do is setup a payment method to charge the value  of the tickets to, then refund that charge to the credit card, a bit like processing a gift voucher. That way the reports for the event wont change as you don’t have to actually cancel any of the tickets.

  • We do the same kind of thing as Gary mentions if we can't return a ticket.

  • We too have a what we call “service recovery” payment method specific to this requirement, doing a plus-and-minus zero-balance payment adjustment, with the customers card the credit side of the payment.

The GL code attached to the payment method controls where the internal expense of the ticket is transferred to when the customer’s card is refunded.
