We are thinking about scaling a reserved seat house. I have never done this before so I am trying to get a sense of what is involved (work hours) in order to staff appropriately. I'm assuming I would use the current facility and house map and I would need to create different zone maps. It seems as if most of the work is setting up the price maps since there will be more and then on the performance set up pricing tab.
In the past, in order to get a jump on things we would always create the price maps with titles of what price types share that price and then as soon as we know what the actual price was going to be then we would go back and enter. It seems that in a scaling situation that would be much harder to do and that we should just wait until the prices are determined.
How do organizations handle their price maps? Do any of you try setting up things beforehand.
Do you have different price types for the different zones? I can think of any way to share price types between zones if they are different prices. Am I missing something?
Hi Rosa,
One of the main functions of a price map is so that a price type can have a different price in each zone. Let’s say that you have 4 zones on your zone map. Each price map you create for that zone map will have 4 different price fields, one for each of your 4 zones. So you can have a Standard, Full, or Adult price type, associate it with the corresponding price map, and the price will vary based on which seat is selected.
For this to work, your price types need to be generic: Standard, $5 off, 25% off, Subscription, Senior, etc. If you use price types named after the exact price, you’ll run into some trouble assuring that the correct price type gets used with the correct seats. While you can inactivate a zone on a price map, preventing a seat from being reserved in that zone when a price type with that price map is used, that is really only intended for limited circumstances, such as when you want to exclude only your top tier of seats from a discount.
For more assistance you might want to reference the Ticket Pricing document.
You are correct in that most of the work to implement scaling will be setting up your price maps and adding price to performances. Creating a zone map shouldn’t take more than an hour at the most (not counting the prep time to determine how you want to scale your house).
