Printing with Dual path BOCAs

We would like to print tickets from two different ticket stocks and are considering buying BOCA Lemur-2's that have two paths.  Is anyone successfully using a dual path printer with Tessitura?  Tess. doesn't currently support dual paths but I thought someone might have a workaround such as (just for example) configuring the BOCA each time to switch to one path or the other.  We are just trying to avoid having two single path printers at each ticketing location, which seems a waste of money and space.

Thanks

Michael

  • Hi,

We thought about it as well and I enquired about these units with one of the UK suppliers of BOCA Lemurs, but was informed that getting the double-path printer does not really pay off with usage such as ours through Tessitura. Unfortunately, much as it would be great to print at twice the speed from one batch, I don't think this can currently be done easily.

Also, the supplier actually advised against the dual-path unit, as the price is pretty much the same as 2 separate printers, but you only get one logic board in the device, which means that if it breaks - the whole unit is non-operational. Just a thing to consider, I guess!

  • Tessitura effectively doesn't support dual-path Boca printing, as there's no way to pass the <P1> or <P2> command that tells the Boca which of the stock paths to use. It'll default to whichever is assigned as the default path in the Boca settings.

  • Hi Michael,

I'm experiencing the same dilemma, wanting to print two different ticket stocks to a single dual-path printer. Unfortunately, as Jonathan has outlined, Tessitura cannot pass the <P1> or <P2> command to utilize the alternate path. The best work around I've found is changing the default path on the printer itself for the required stock. Disadvantage: requires manual change, cant print to both paths at once. Advantage: paths are setup correctly for different types of ticket stock.

I'd love to hear a better work around if it's out there.

  • Hi David,

Is this a process that you have to do every time you want to use the alternate stock? Also what is involved in changing the default path on the printer itself? Can that be done by the average user or is technical knowledge required?

    Thank you

  • Hi Lisa,

Yes, we make the change every time we use the alternate stock. It only takes a couple of minutes once you've done it a time or two. The default path is changed through the 'menu' located directly on the printer itself. It's not very difficult so I'd think about anyone could do it. When you make the change be careful not to make any other changes by accident and you want to 'save and exit' the change as soon as it's applied. I usually print a test ticket right after I've made the change to ensure it's printed on the correct path. I can give you specifics regarding the menu option to change the default path if you'd like.
