Hi all,
I’m looking at the rate at which one-time attenders do/do not return for a second performance, and was wondering if any of you have things that you do well/would like to do/wish you had done better to generate repeat attendance. We’re looking at all areas including ticket pricing/linked discounts, meal deal packages, vouchers for __% off at our café, etc… I’d love any comments, and am more than happy to share what we do here!
Cheers,
Kathleen

One other thing I thought about:
We also added the NTF constituency to T-Stats, so we can do further analysis on those folks. This lives in the Const Sum – Custom tab in T-Stats. It’s only the constituency that’s in there, so we can only use the custom criteria to analyze current NTF – if we wanted to analyze prior years’ NTF in T-Stats, we’d just do it off a list and add the list into T-Stats.

Shelley,
Our Tessitura guru here actually created 2 things that help us pull those numbers (that don’t exist in Tessitura as is): a constituency that auto-populates when someone buys a ticket for the first time (only valid for the current season), and an attribute that auto-populates with the date of a patron’s first performance, whenever that was. Both of those elements were then added into List Manager as criteria elements.
This way, we can pull the current season NTF (New to File) using the constituency, and any previous seasons’ NTF patrons using dates in the attribute.
While I don’t know exactly how this was accomplished from a backend perspective, I can give you a usable workaround to at least get your NTF numbers so far for the season you’re in:
Create a list of all your ticket buyers for this season (e.g., Ticket Season IN 2010-2011 Season)
Create a second list with the following criteria:
*List IN (the name of your first list)
*Ticket-Number of Unique Perfs = 1
This will give you anyone who’s attended this year, but only has one performance – by default, those folks will be your New To File. Now, it won’t catch *everybody* who’s new – if someone bought tickets to two different shows this season, but it’s still their first season, or if they bought tickets to two different performances of the same show – but it will certainly be a good start.
Good luck!

Hi Christy,
I'm interested to know how you pull your list for first time buyers. We are going to start doing the same thing but I'm stuck on the correct list criteria. Thanks for your help!

Kathleen,
Just last season, we instituted a plan for our first-time attendees (NTF, or New To File, as we call them) that’s seemed to help with retention. After the show closes, we send all NTF folks an email or postcard with an offer for Buy-One-Get-One-Free tickets to the next 2 or 3 shows we have coming up. Last year, we sold over 1,000 additional tickets to patrons who’d only come to our theatre once. To date this year, we’ve already sold 255 tickets to either patrons who attended for the first time to one of our last 2 shows in the spring, or to our first show so far this season. It’s worked really well to encourage repeat attendance for us.
